Baggage handler, 26, dies after her hair tangles in conveyor belt

After her hair caught on a conveyor belt, an airport baggage handler was killed in the accident. Jermani Thompson (pictured), 26 years old, was working at New Orleans Airport. Her hair got caught in a conveyor belt while she was unloading a Frontier plane.

She was working on the apron which is the area where the aircraft is stored, loaded, unloaded and refueled. Officials claim that she was taken to the hospital at 10:10 pm, but died shortly thereafter.

The Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office identified her body and a spokesperson for the airport confirmed that the accident occurred. According to a spokesperson for GAT Airline Ground Support where she worked, her hair was caught in the belt loader.

They stated that they were heartbroken and would support her family and friends as best we can. "Please send well wishes to all at our New Orleans station during this difficult time.

Frontier Airlines cancelled one flight Wednesday morning following the accident, but all other flights continued to operate as scheduled.

Frontier Airlines released a statement saying that they were sending their deepest condolences after the tragic loss of a member of its ground handling business partnership at Louis Armstrong International Airport,
