Networks refused to air Biden's primetime address live because it was too political

CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox News did not air the speech, which Biden criticized the former president Donald Trump and "MAGA Republicans" for trying to bring the country backwards live.

Instead, the networks decided to show reruns of their shows , and Fox broadcast the latest program, Tucker Carlson Tonight, while MSNBC and CNN broadcast speeches live on air, according to the Washington Post.

"MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution," Biden declared during his speech. "They do not believe in the rule of law. They do not recognize the will of the people. They refuse to accept the results of a free election."

It's not common to see U.S. presidents to deliver speeches during prime-time television times, however, networks generally broadcast speeches when they are required.

Some media outlets may not broadcast the speech if it's considered to be too political like the case when NBC and CBS didn't air former president Obama's 2014 speech on prime time on immigration reform, as per the publication.

At the very least, a White House official tried to convince media outlets to broadcast the speech live and told NBC News that the speech did not address

The day before, Biden attempted to backtrack his remarks on Trump supporters, by saying that he doesn't consider "any Trump supporter a threat to the country."
